Helping Develop the Next Generation of GBI Employees

On Wednesday September 17th, 2014, Todd Svetin (Molokai Assistant Regional Manager) visited with and spoke for over an hour to 31 fifth grade students at Kaunakakai Elementary School about his experiences in the construction industry over the past 21 years. Todd spoke specifically to the children about designing and building bridges such as the Kawela Bridge project that Goodfellow Bros., recently completed.

As part of the students STEM focus, they are learning about the engineering design process. With that in mind, they designed their own bridges using Popsicle sticks and tested their bridge strength by seeing how much weight they could hold.

Way to go Todd!

On September 25th, to further the students' understanding of the engineering behind a bridge, the fifth graders visited the newly constructed Kawela Bridge with GBI Project Engineer, Clayton Morrell. Clayton showed the students the bridge they saw in photos and explained why the bridge was built the way that it was.
