EVENT | MAUI PUBLIC SCHOOLS
While the weather continued to bring sweltering conditions to Hawai‘i, Goodfellow Bros. and Hawai‘i Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui teamed up to bring much-needed relief to middle and intermediate public schools on Maui.
This summer brought some of the hottest days and breaking record temperatures throughout the state. Temperatures in some areas reached 104 degrees with 90 percent humidity. Unfortunately, many of the state’s schools are not equipped to endure such temperatures while maintaining a healthy learning environment for the students.
The Lieutenant Governor and Goodfellow Bros. hope that the company’s donation of 100 fans to middle schools will help make classrooms comfortable and cool. This was just the first step in getting more fans to Maui schools. Lt. Governor Tsutsui encouraged all businesses and the community to support a campaign on the GoFundMe crowdfunding website called “Keep our Keiki Cool.”
The State Department of Education, with limited funding, was overwhelmed with the need to assist schools with heat abatement issues throughout the state. Providing a safe and healthy learning environment for students and teachers was—and continues to be—a top priority.
With this public/private partnership, there was a more rapid response to support the schools. “This project was
a great way to support our community,” Chad Goodfellow said. “And it ensures that
our students and teachers
are comfortable in their classrooms.”
Thank you to Goodfellow Bros. and Lt. Governor Tsutsui for their efforts to maintain a cool, comfortable and conducive learning environment for students and educators alike.
